How to wash your winter down jacket?

Down Care – Learn How to Properly Wash Your Down Winter Clothes

True allies of Canadian winters , all our FOSFO Down Coats have RDS certification and a fill factor of 600 with 80/20 quality. To keep it in perfect condition throughout the years, remember to wash it, at the beginning or end of the season, by following these 5 easy steps!

Down is most often used as insulation for a winter coat because it can withstand a wide range of climatic conditions, from the most arid to the mildest. Because it offers great breathability and a high warmth index, the down jacket has proven itself in Canada.

To maintain these extraordinary insulating and waterproof properties, the short, long, or maxi down jacket must be washed the right way around and at the right frequency. Simply washing your down jacket at the beginning or end of the season will restore its original shine and volume. Regular maintenance will also help it maintain the 5000 MP waterproofing found on all FOSFO down jackets for women and men.

Step 1: Wash the stains on the down

To remove a visible stain, simply rub it lightly with a clean cloth and a mild soap, such as Marseille soap . This step can be done as many times as necessary during the winter, especially to remove grease, coffee, or food stains from the down coating. It should also be done just before putting the down jacket in the washing machine.

Step 2: Wash the down coat in the washing machine

That's right, all FOSO down jackets can be front-loaded in the washing machine! To restore your down jacket to its youthful appearance, simply wash it in cold water, on a delicate cycle, and use a mild detergent. Before putting your winter coat in the washing machine, be sure to empty the contents of the pockets! Do not use fabric softener or bleach.

Step 3: Dry the down layer

To restore the down jacket's body, it's essential to tumble dry it once the wash cycle is complete. The best way to do this is to set the dryer to a low temperature and add dryer balls or tennis balls to the tub. It's not uncommon for the down jacket to need two or three cycles to dry.

Step 4: Hang the down layer

To restore your down jacket's body, it's essential to tumble dry it once the wash cycle is complete. Once the drying cycle is complete, it's best to avoid wringing out your down, even if there's still some moisture left. Simply hang it up in the open air for a few hours before wearing it. It should then have regained its original volume. If necessary, you can put it back in the dryer for a few minutes.

Step 5: Store the down jacket

At the end of the season, store your winter coat after washing it. A down coat should always be stored away from direct sunlight. Although it is compressible, it is recommended to hang it in a closet rather than folding it in a box.

And what about the synthetic coat?

Most Audvik winter coats, made in Quebec, are synthetic. They can be washed following the same instructions as a down jacket... with one exception. Instead of putting the FOSFO synthetic coat in the dryer, lay it flat to dry.

Because down is fragile, it must be cared for with love. We may need to adapt the washing steps for a winter coat by following the manufacturer's instructions. With these simple steps, you can face several Canadian winters hand in hand with your down jacket.
